  • Leavenworth, Kansas.* The Cody Choraliers of Leavenworth, Kansas were established in 1969. The mission of the group is, "to be an ever growing body of sociable, fun-loving, acapella barbershop style singers who promote and encourage vocal music through social activities, contests, performances (both public & private), and educational opportunities within our local schools."

The chapter's annual cycle consists of competition in the Spring CSD small chorus contest, and an annual show in September of each year. Traditionally, the group has no formal Christmas show, preferring to schedule visits to various retirement communities and nursing homes to bring a bit of Christmas cheer to those who can't venture forth to find it.

The Choraliers have viewed themselves as a "social" chapter, with the emphasis on weekly fellowship. The membership aspires to sing as well as possible, but without the intensity that more competition-oriented chapters might expect. One of the side benifits to this serious, but casual approach is the greater opportunity for members to sing in quartets. This small chapter of less than 40 members has five registered quartets - Heartland Harmony, The Possum Holler Four, Purely Harmonic, Escape, and, MisFourTune. Even members who are not in registered quartets get quartet experience. Time is set aside at every meeting for ad hoc groups of four men to sing a polecat or some other familiar number familiar to all.

The group meets every Monday night at the First Presbyterian Church in Leavenworth (at 4th and Walnut Streets) at 7:00 PM. Interested parties may call 913 651 SING for more information.
